What is the recently announced United States Tech Force? It is a campaign that will witness the hiring of about a thousand techies for various roles in government agencies. No specific degrees or experience requirements are reportedly required for these roles, which will be posted on USA Jobs.
Yes, these government jobs will pay salaries in the range of $130,000 to $195,000. The two-year early-career programme will allow techies to take up public-sector jobs that will equip them with the experience and knowledge required to land even better jobs, even in the private sector.
This campaign will involve partnerships with over 28 tech firms, including Microsoft, OpenAI, Nvidia, Dell, Amazon Web Services, Apple, Meta, Uber, Oracle, Palantir, Box, Anduril and so on.
It is reported that firms are allowed to nominate existing employees from their workforce for the programme, but they would have to avail of leave, paid or unpaid, for the two-year government employment offer. They may return to their private jobs as per the respective company policies.
Participants will get to work across various government departments and agencies on various digitisation projects, including implementation of artificial intelligence (AI).
As per Business Insider, those interested need to submit an application and be ready to be assessed on their technical knowledge. There will also be interviews with officials of the departments and a background test. The initial screening and assessments will be done by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).
After the two-year early-career programme, participants may even be considered for absorption into these agencies. Private and government-sector job fairs at the end of the programme will also give the participants opportunities to land suitable jobs.
