In a bid to strengthen its position as a leading global chipset provider, Media Tek, the global fabless semiconductor company is preparing to hire aggressively for its offices across India. It is looking for managerial and technical leaders capable of expanding research and development as well as design capabilities in the country. About 92 per cent of all managerial positions at MediaTek’s overseas sites are locally hired.

MediaTek is known for its chipset technology for smartphones, smart TVs, ARM-based computing devices and various AIoT connected devices such as voice assistant devices (VADs) optical and Blu-ray DVD players.

Considering India an important market, MediaTek is reiterating its commitment and support to the Make in India programme of the Indian government, “by investing in local Indian talent and scaling capabilities to drive innovation for India and global markets,” said Rituparna Mandal, general manager, MediaTek Bangalore.

Being a frontrunner in the R&D segment, it will invest significantly in hiring with a focus on AI technologies, smart home/enterprise segments, 5G and wireless communications among others, in FY 2022.

Last year, it reportedly invested about US$2.6 billion (24 per cent of its revenues) in R&D. This year, it has increased its R&D budget to over US$3billion for future business growth opportunities.

According to Mandal, the Company will be hiring from campuses, “to strengthen our research and product design capabilities across research centres in Bangalore and Noida.”

It is expected that the newly hired managerial and technical leaders will help Media Tek “make a quantum leap in innovation and achieve our goals of developing advanced and inclusive solutions,” said Mandal.

The Company, which provides its partners and customers feature-rich, premium technology spanning backend and frontend hardware engineering, will be looking out for talent in the areas of protocol stack development, digital signal processing, Wi-Fi technology and field testing.

MediaTek is known for its focus on internal training and mentorship programmes and believes in investing in the growth and development of its employees. Its new hires are trained via a two-pronged programme involving partnering with external teams and creating internal training modules. Employees are also offered internal e-learning platforms and regular opportunities for upskilling. Technical training sessions relevant to their responsibilities are also offered to leaders within the organsiation.
