The Tripura Government has introduced a 5 per cent increase in dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) for its 1.88 lakh state employees and pensioners. The decision will serve as a significant financial boost just in time for Diwali.
The raise, set to take effect from 1 November, is expected to offer relief to over 1.6 lakh active government employees and around 82,000 pensioners.
This decision reflects the government’s focus on prioritising the well-being of its workforce, despite fiscal challenges faced by the state. This increase in DA and DR is projected to cost the state exchequer an additional Rs 500 crore annually. With this adjustment, Tripura state employees will now receive a total DA of 30 per cent, narrowing the gap between state and Central government benefits.
Over the last two years, Tripura’s government has cumulatively approved a 27 per cent DA increase, reaching the current rate of 30 per cent. However, the DA for Tripura’s employees still lags behind the Central government rate, which stands at 53 per cent for its employees and pensioners.
In addition to the DA hike, the government has announced enhanced allowances for Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel. As part of this update, monthly ration allowances for TSR personnel will double from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000, while the annual uniform grant will be increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000. To further support TSR personnel, the state cabinet has approved an allocation of Rs 5 crore for the repair and maintenance of TSR posts. Each TSR battalion will also receive Rs 5 lakh for the establishment of gym facilities, promoting fitness and well-being within the force.
