Quick commerce app, Zepto is relocating its headquarters from Powai, Mumbai, to Sarjapur, Bengaluru, as reported by Moneycontrol. This move, aimed at consolidating operations and expanding in India’s tech hub, will significantly impact the company’s employees.
Currently, Zepto’s business functions are in Mumbai, while its tech and product teams are based in Bengaluru.
The company plans to unify its 1,700-1,800 employees under one roof, requiring staff to relocate by the end of November or early December. While the company has been reportedly flexible, the relocation is mandatory.
Regarding employee willingness to relocate, a source indicated that around 90 per cent of the 1,000 employees in Mumbai are already willing to move, with ongoing discussions for the remaining staff. If all proceeds as planned, only five to seven per cent of the Mumbai-based employees may be unable to relocate to Bengaluru.
To further ease the process, Zepto has committed to covering the relocation expenses for its employees, a cost projected to be between Rs 3-4 crore. However, this expense is expected to be offset by saving about Rs 40-50 lakh per month in rent due to the movement.
In finalising the new office space in Bengaluru, Zepto is considering areas such as Sarjapur, HSR, or Bellandur, known for hosting several multinational companies and startups, including competitors Swiggy and Flipkart.
