    Hitachi India has appointed N Venu as managing director. He was earlier serving as managing director & CEO, India & South Asia, and member of global executive team, Hitachi Energy.

    In his new role, Venu Nuguri will focus on expanding Hitachi’s legacy in India in line with the Hitachi Group’s new management plan, Inspire 2027.

    Backed by over three decades of professional experience, Venu started off as an engineer-operations, with GEC Alstom India in 1988. Over six years later he joined ABB in India, as manager-sales and marketing. Six years into this role, he was elevated to AVP and key account manager. Two years later he was promoted to AVP and head of sales and marketing, power systems, South region. By the time he moved on to ABB Power Grids, he had risen to the position of senior vice president and country head –sales and marketing.

    At ABB Power Grids, he played president, country head, sales and marketing, member corporate management committee, from 2009 to 2011. He was elevated to president and head of power systems division, member of corporate management committee in October of 2011. Another promotion in 2016 made him president, head of Power Grids division, South Asia, Middle East and Africa and saw him working out of Dubai and Singapore. From 2019 to 2020 he served as managing director and CEO, India and head of South Asia region, Power Grids business.

    For the next one year and four months, he was managing director and CEO, India and South Asia and member of executive team.

    Venu was vice chairman, CII Karnataka State Council from March 2023 to April 2024. He then became chairman, CII Karnataka State Council from April 2024 to March 2025.

    It was in October of 2021 that he took up the role of MD & CEO, India & South Asia, and member of global executive team, Hitachi Energy.

    In his new role as MD, Hitachi India, Venu will be tasked with strengthening the cohesion around 28 Hitachi group companies in India. He will strive to create value for customers as Hitachi transforms into a digital-centric company and expand the Lumada business.

    This appointment comes at a time when Hitachi is witnessing major expansion in India, covering varied businesses, including rail, digital, connective industries, energy, financial inclusion, e-education and healthcare.

    Kojin Nakakita, VP and executive officer, head of regional strategies [APAC/India], chairman, Hitachi Asia is confident that Venu’s “experience and deep understanding of the Indian market will be instrumental in further accelerating Hitachi’s business in India.”

    Bharat Kaushal, executive chairman, Hitachi India, acknowledges how Venu “has been instrumental in driving and steering business at Hitachi Energy, which has witnessed expansive growth under his leadership.” Therefore, he firmly believes that “ his cosmic wisdom and business acumen will further strengthen the India operations, especially driving multiple stakeholders towards creating value to imprint an indelible social impact.”

    In N Venu’s own words, “It is an honor to be bestowed with this responsibility at such a critical juncture in Hitachi’s legacy. India is a key market for Hitachi Energy globally and, through One Hitachi, is set to be a cornerstone of the company’s future worldwide growth.”
