Intel has elevated Sachin Katti to chief technology officer (CTO) and head of AI. Lip-Bu Tan, CEO, Intel made the announcement recentl as part of a reorganisation exercise to speed up decision-making and increase focus on artificial intelligence (AI).
Katti, an alumnus of IIT Bombay, holds a PhD in computer science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He started off as a research assistant in MIT and went on to become a postdoctoral scholar at UC Berkeley. He then founded xRAN Forum in 2016.
In 2011 he co-founded Kumu Networks and took on the role of CEO for about three years. After 14 years of building and growing Kumu Networks, Katti founded Uhana, in 2016.
He was assistant professor at Stanford University from 2010 to 2016. He became associate professor in 2016 and continues to teach there.
Sachin Katti has been serving as technical steering board co-chair at O-RAN Alliance since 2018.
It was in November of 2021 that he joined Intel as chief technology officer-Network and Edge Group.
With this elevation, Sachin Katti will also be tasked with managing the company’s relationships with startups and developer communities.
The objective of the appointment is to give the required push to AI within the organisation so that it grows beyond being just a subunit of the data centre business of Intel. It is hoped that with Katti dedicatedly leading AI, Intel’s AI ambitions will get wings.
