A strike scheduled for today, that is, 28 November, by the trade unions of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation ((KSRTC) has been postponed. The Joint Action Committee of the Trade Unions of KSRTC met with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recently where the CM reportedly offered the pay hike with effect from 1 April, 2026, instead of the earlier April, 2027.
The CM also assured that arrears for the period of January 2022 to Februrary 2023 would be cleared. However, despite the CM’s offer, it is reported that the trade unions have not budged from their original demands.
The unions had been demanding that the arrears of Rs 1,785 crore for the period January 2020 to February 2023 should be cleared. They had also been seeking a 25 per cent increment with effect from 1 January 2024.
Further discussions are scheduled to take place in the first week of December 2025. Meanwhile, the protest rally that was supposed to take place today has been called off.
A strike did take place back in August when a meeting had failed to yield the desire results. The protest had affected bus services across the state and had been called off only after an order to do so was issued by the High Court.
