The integrated, two and a half year-long ‘Work while you study’ programme, will see selected students working for three days and studying on campus for two days.

SAP Labs India has launched a pilot programme —‘Work while you study’. As per this programme, the company will select students and give them the opportunity to work and earn whilst they pursue a Masters’ programme in experience design. The objective is to build a pipeline for early talent in the user experience design (UXD) area.

For this initiative, the Germany-headquartered company has tied up with the Srishti Institute of Art, Design & Technology of Bengaluru.

According to the ‘Work while you study’ programme, the selected students will work for three days out of the SAP Labs office in Bengaluru, and study at the campus, that is, at Srishti, for two days. .

The total duration of this programme is two and a half years, out of which the scholars will spend two years on academics and the remaining six months on their induction into SAP Labs.

The scholars will initially work in two different UXD teams for two practical phases, each lasting 12 months.

Based on fulfilling the academic criteria set by Srishti, the scholars will be awarded an M.A. (Professional Practice) in Experience Design, which is also accredited by the University of Mysore.

They will then have the opportunity to be absorbed into full-time employment with SAP Labs, based on their performance in academics and the practical phases.

Dilipkumar Khandelwal, managing director, SAP Labs India, and executive vice-president and global head of suite engineering, SAP, says, “Our aim is to identify and absorb early talent in the UXD area, which we believe will go a long way in achieving our strategic people-centric goals of promoting talent from within”.

SAP hopes to extend its current portfolio of business offerings through this campus activity. The human resources team had received feedback and suggestions from the business to look at a possible programme in the design sphere.

The HR team at SAP worked closely with Srishti and experts from the UXD field to prepare this curriculum and model as per SAP’s requirement.
