Intel is on the lookout for the right person to step into Pat Gelsinger’s shoes. Yes, Pat Gelsinger has bid adieu to Intel after a very long and successful association of almost 40 years. He had served as chief executive officer since February 2021. Before this, he was associated with Intel for about three decades, from 1979 to 2005

With effect from 1 December 2024 Gelsinger is no longer part of the board of directors, Intel.

Two interim co-chief executive officers have been announced —David Zinsner, EVP and CFO, and Michelle (MJ) Johnston Holthaus, CEO, Intel Products. While Zinser joined Intel in January 2022, Holthaus began her association with Intel almost 30 years ago.

Frank Yeary, independent chair of the board of Intel, will play interim executive chair during this transition period.

Pat Gelsinger had first joined Intel in 1979. He was Intel Group’s first ever chief technology officer from 2000 to 2005. During his first three-decade long associate, he also served as senior vice president and general manager, Digital Enterprise Group.

September of 2009 saw Gelsinger move on from Intel to take up the role of president and COO, EMC (Dell Technologies). Three years later, he switched to VMware, as CEO from 2012 to 2021.

In February of 2021 he was back at Intel, as CEO. During his tenure at Intel, Gelsinger has helped launch and revitalise process manufacturing by investing in the latest semiconductor manufacturing techniques. He has also tried to drive innovation throughout the company.

While the new CEO is yet to be spotted, Intel will continue to focus on making its product portfolio stronger. It will try to advance its capabilities even while optimising its operating expenses and capital.
