Tech Mahindra has launched an internal review after a job applicant alleged that he faced religious discrimination and verbal abuse during a recruitment interview. The company said it is examining the matter and will take appropriate action based on its findings.
The allegations were made by Noida-based job seeker Fazal Sheikh in a post on social-media platform X. Sheikh claimed that he was subjected to derogatory remarks about his religion during an interview for a position at Tech Mahindra. He also alleged that a recruiter verbally abused his friend during a subsequent phone call after the latter intervened on his behalf.
The applicant further claimed to possess an audio recording of the conversation and alleged that his attempt to lodge a police complaint did not result in immediate action. According to his post, he was advised to treat the incident as a minor matter.
Responding to the allegations, Tech Mahindra said it is treating the matter with urgency. The company stated that it is verifying the facts surrounding both the interview process and the subsequent phone call referenced by the applicant.
The company reiterated its commitment to maintaining a fair, respectful and merit-based recruitment process. It added that discriminatory behaviour or disrespectful conduct is not tolerated, whether by its employees or by third-party partners involved in hiring activities.
The incident has sparked discussions on workplace inclusion and ethical hiring practices, highlighting the importance of ensuring that recruitment processes remain free from discrimination and bias. The outcome of Tech Mahindra’s internal review is awaited.
