A Chinese crane company has made headlines for its unconventional year-end bonus. Henan Mining Crane offered employees a total of $11 million (approximately 70 crores). However, there was a catch—employees could only take as much cash as they could count in 15 minutes.
The company laid out massive piles of cash on a large table. Employees were given a short window to grab as much money as they could. A video of the event first appeared on Chinese social-media platforms such as Weibo and Douyin before spreading globally.
In the video, employees can be seen hurriedly stacking bundles of cash. Reports suggest that one worker managed to collect 100,000 yuan (about 12.07 lakh) within the time limit. The unusual bonus method sparked a mix of amusement and debate online.
Some praised the company’s generosity, calling it a fun and engaging way to distribute bonuses. Others criticised the approach, arguing that employees deserved a more dignified reward system.
The spectacle led to a flood of reactions online. Some users admired the company’s spirit, joking that this was the kind of ‘paperwork’ they wanted at their jobs. Others compared it to workplaces where bonuses are replaced with heavier workloads.
Criticism also poured in. Some felt the challenge turned employees into contestants rather than rewarding them properly. Others pointed out that the money could have been directly transferred to employees’ bank accounts instead of turning it into a public display.
This is not the first time Henan Mining Crane has made headlines for extravagant bonuses. In 2023, the company handed out large sums of cash during its annual dinner, reinforcing its reputation for rewarding employees in a grand fashion.
While the company’s approach may be unusual, it has certainly captured global attention, sparking discussions about workplace rewards and corporate culture.
