How one call from the road sent whole team back to office

Client meeting taken while driving prompts company to end remote work for the group

A single decision during a commute has cost an entire team their work-from-home flexibility.

According to a post shared on Reddit that quickly went viral, an employee dialled into a client meeting while driving and stayed on the call for about two hours. People on the call said they could hear road noise, honking, and the employee managing traffic while trying to be present.

Two hours later, management issued a new policy: the team would return to mandatory work-from-office effective immediately.

The internal message, as described in the post, cited concerns around safety, professionalism, and the impression made on clients. The employee involved reportedly also faced disciplinary action.

The incident has triggered debate online about where to draw the line with remote work. Many commenters called taking work calls while driving unsafe and damaging to a company’s credibility with clients. Others said penalising the whole team for one person’s actions was disproportionate, and that the issue should have been handled individually.

Workplace experts point out that hybrid and remote models depend on trust. When that trust is visibly broken in a client-facing setting, companies often respond with broad policy changes to reassert standards.

The company has not made an official statement on the Reddit post. For now, the team’s takeaway is direct: one risky call from the car was enough to bring everyone back to their desks.
