Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy has revealed that about six million white-collar professionals have been rendered jobless in India due to the pandemic. Last year, that is, in 2019, in the May to August period, the employment of white-collar professionals had spiked in the country, to 18.8 million. However, this figure fell to 12.2 million in the same period this year, that is, 2020. This is the lowest figure ever reached since 2016. Around 700,000 people may be rendered jobless in the UK, as the Government’s furlough programme is about to end in October.
