Meta is set to expand in India and is already looking for talent for its enterprise engineering team, which will operate from its Bengaluru centre. This is the team that handles Meta’s internal tools, as per a Tech Crunch report. Given that Meta hasn’t yet looked at India as an engineering hub, this appears to be a positive sign, and indicating of growing opportunities for the youth of the country.
It hasn’t been long since Meta laid off five per cent of its workforce on the basis of their weak performance. Therefore, this hiring in India does raise hopes for the engineering talent in the country.
While its other offices in Mumbai, Gurugram, New Delhi, Hyderabad and Bengaluru have very few openings for techies or engineers, the Bengaluru centre is looking to fill 41 engineering positions, including machine learning, software engineering jobs, and even chip designing for the data centres of Meta.
The company has also announced an engineering director vacancy. The role requires a candidate capable of putting together and heading the India engineering team.
Earlier this month, Meta had grabbed headlines when it revealed its intentions to take a strict stance against underperformers by laying them off. It announced its plans to focus and invest more on artificial intelligence this year and proceeded to share that about five per cent of its workforce across 12 countries would be laid off. That means about 4,000 employees may be impacted overall.
