Boeing has laid off approximately 180 employees at its Engineering and Technology Centre in Bengaluru, Karnataka. This move is part of a global workforce reduction initiative, as per reports that cite sources.
Boeing’s Engineering and Technology Centres in Bengaluru and Chennai handle advanced aerospace engineering work. The Bengaluru campus, which is wholly owned by Boeing, is one of its largest investments outside the US.
The layoffs align with Boeing’s previous announcement to reduce its global workforce by around 10 per cent. The reductions in India were reportedly executed with caution, focusing on maintaining service quality, safety and operational excellence.
Boeing employs around 7,000 people in India, which is and continues to be an important market for the company. The job cuts reportedly took place during the December quarter of 2024.
While there has been no official statement from Boeing, sources described the decision as a “strategic adjustment.” The company ensured that these changes would not affect its customers or government operations. Some roles were eliminated, while new positions were also created.
India will remain a key sourcing hub for Boeing, with the company procuring approximately $1.25 billion annually from a network of over 300 suppliers. Despite the workforce reduction, Boeing chooses to remain committed to prioritising operational efficiency and customer service.
