CGHS benefits extended to KVS employees

The Central government has issued fresh guidelines to extend the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) benefits to serving and retired employees of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS). The new rules outline the roles of regional offices, clarify the application process, and detail subscription payments.

The CGHS facility is optional for both serving and retired KVS employees. Retired personnel must complete the prescribed application form, as specified in the 4 November, 2024 KVS directive. All fields in the form are mandatory. Incomplete applications will be rejected. Once enrolled, retired employees cannot opt out of the scheme.

Retired employees must submit their application form and subscription amount to the Retirement Benefit Sanctioning Regional Office. Specific account numbers and IFSC codes are provided for payments. The regional office holds the funds submitted and pays them to CGHS authorities based on the city-specific rate. If additional funds are needed, the office can request them from KVS headquarters.

A letter to stop the Fixed Medical Allowance (FMA) will be issued by the Retirement Benefit Sanctioning Regional Office, KVS headquarters, or Zonal Institutes of Education and Training (ZIETs). This letter must accompany the application when sent to the designated regional office. The regional office verifies the application, ensures the FMA discontinuation letter is attached, confirms receipt of the CGHS subscription, and keeps detailed records.

The selected regional office handles the issuance of CGHS cards and processes medical claims for retired employees. It transfers the application and subscription to the respective CGHS authority. The same office also facilitates reimbursements for medical claims.
