Lufthansa Airlines Group has finally announced a pay hike for its pilots after having experienced frequent strikes leading to flight disruptions. Entry-level pilots will enjoy maximum benefits from this move.
Pilots of Lufthansa as well as Lufthansa Cargo will get a pay hike. The Airline’s pilots have been calling strikes and off over a 5.5 per cent hike this year.
Now, a co-pilot, at entry level, will get around 20 per cent hike in basic pay, whereas a final grade captain’s salary of the Group will witness a 5.5 per cent increment.
The cockpit crew can look forward to an increase in the basic monthly pay of about €490 each in two stages ? backdated with effect from August 2022 and then April 2023.
Owing to the peace obligation as part of the deal, strikes have been averted at least till 30 June 2023.
Earlier this month, the Delhi Airport was the scene of much chaos and protests when all Lufthansa flights were cancelled due to a pilots’ strike on 2 September. Almost 800 flights were cancelled and over one lakh people inconvenienced.
Worried students and passengers stranded at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport had taken to tweeting about their plight, with some even requesting Minister of Civil Aviation JM Scindia to help the stranded passengers. “We are stuck here. Staff has vanished @PMOIndia. No food, no accommodation no fligh rebooking @ JM_Scindia, tweeted a hassled passenger. About 700 Canada-bound passengers, mostly students had protested inside the terminal, with their family members blocking the entrance to the terminal outside.
