After already having fired 90 per cent of 200 employees in India, Elon Musk has now shut down two out of its three offices in the country. The staff members have been asked to work from home. Apart from Delhi, Musk has shut the Twitter office in Mumbai as well.
The Bengaluru office continues to function. This office comprises mostly engineers, who report to the Twitter headquarters in the US. It appears like Musk has shifted focus from the India market, at least for the time being.
The two India offices have been shut down as part of the Company’s cost-cutting measures. Twitter has been facing challenges in content regulation and overall functioning ever since the layoffs began. The CEO had already hinted that it may take him a year to achieve operational stability and make the social-media company financially healthy.
It is reported that having failed to pay rent for its offices in London and San Francisco, Twitter has been dealing with cases filed by several service providers and contractors. In Singapore too, it was reported a couple of weeks ago that employees were led out of the office building by landlords.
Media reports claim that Twitter has had to sell certain office assets to raise the money for rent in some locations. Musk has never hidden the fact that revenues have been dwindling and has even hinted a likelihood of bankruptcy.
