Ashok Ramchandran, with over three decades of HR experience, has been appointed the new director of human resources (HR) at the Aditya Birla Group, succeeding Santrupt Misra who is retiring. The move signals a focus on seasoned leadership to navigate the challenges of managing a large and dynamic workforce.

Ramchandran, previously the group’s executive president for HR, brings a diverse background spanning stints at Vodafone, Tata AIA Life Insurance, GE Money, and Asian Paints. Notably, his 11 years at Asian Paints, where he began his HR journey in 1989, included leading the Ankleshwar plant as factory manager. This breadth of experience, coupled with his proven track record in leading HR teams across geographies, positions him well to tackle the Group’s human capital needs.

The Aditya Birla Group, with over 140,000 employees across 40 countries, faces the constant challenge of attracting, retaining, and developing top talent. Ramchandran’s expertise in talent management and employee engagement will be crucial in navigating this competitive landscape.

Misra, meanwhile, leaves a legacy of shaping employee policies and mentoring the next generation of Aditya Birla family members. His extensive board positions in Aditya Birla group companies and impressive academic qualifications, including two PhDs, showcase his significant contribution to the Group.

The transition marks a new chapter for the Aditya Birla Group’s HR department. Ramchandran’s leadership, experience, and strategic vision are expected to guide the Group’s human capital strategy in the years to come, ensuring its continued success in attracting and retaining the talent it needs to thrive in the global marketplace.

We all have reaped substantial benefits from Santrup’s contributions to the realm of HR and the business landscape. Over the years, we’ve been privileged to witness Ashok’s exemplary leadership and inspiring commitment to people and the profession. Decision by ABG to appoint Ashok as successor, given Santrup’s early retirement is commendable. May both continue to ascend to new heights!
