N Chandrasekaran gets Nupur Mallick from TCS to head HR at Tata Sons

Mallick has been working with TCS since 1997. She got into TCS through campus placement after XISS.

The chairman of Tata Sons, N Chandrasekaran, who had moved from Tata Consultancy Services, believes in old timers.

He has got his former team member to head HR at Tata Sons. Nupur Mallick, who is all set to take over the $100-billion-plus conglomerate,Tata Sons, as the head-HR, is currently the HR director at TCS UK & Ireland.

S Padmanabhan is the current CHRO at Tata Sons. He was appointed as the CHRO following NS Rajan’s sudden exit in October, 2016. NS Rajan was appointed by Cyrus Mistry.

Padmanabhan, who will soon turn 60, is scheduled to retire in May. However, he will continue to be on the board of Tata companies, such as Tata Chemicals, as the retirement age for non-executive directors is 70 years.
Padmanabhan is an old timer with Tata Sons. Apart from being the CHRO, he chairs the Tata Business Excellence Group, or TBExG (earlier Tata Quality Management Services), Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Sons and also Tata Power.

Mallick started her career with TCS. After obtaining a post-graduate degree in personnel management and industrial relations from XISS Ranchi, Mallick got into TCS through campus placement in 1997, and has been with the Company ever since. She was elevated as head-HR for TCS Mumbai in 2003 and moved to UK as director-HR in 2005.

She joined TCS when it had only 7,500 employees and now the Company has 300,000 employees across the world.
