The Sleep Company, the mattress brand, has roped in Udhaya Shankar M as its new chief human resources officer (CHRO). The leadership team highlighted his strong execution skills and deep understanding of the HR ecosystem, which will help him adapt quickly and contribute effectively.

Udhaya Shankar brings more than 17 years of experience in HR leadership across major retail and consumer brands. Over the course of his career, he has built strong teams, driven large-scale HR transformations, and developed people strategies that closely support business growth. His expertise covers talent acquisition, employee engagement, capability building, rewards, and HR analytics.

He has worked closely with business leaders and promoters to redesign organisations, manage costs effectively, and create inclusive, performance-driven cultures. His approach has consistently focused on sustainable growth while keeping people at the centre.

Most recently, Shankar was head of HR operations at Metro Brands. In this role, he played a key part in strengthening HR practices and improving people processes across the company. His work there highlighted his ability to combine technology-enabled solutions with well-structured processes to deliver results at scale.

A BE in Computer Science, Udhaya Shankar also holds an MBA in HR from St Mary’s School of Management Studies.

He has served Vodafone as HR executive in the initial years of his career. He was associated with Landmark Group for over 14 years.

Now, as CHRO, Udhaya will lead The Sleep Company’s people and culture agenda. His priorities will include strengthening the employer brand, building talent that is ready for the future, and enhancing employee experience across stores, warehouses and corporate functions.

HRKatha wishes him all the best!
