McDonald’s is hiring massively. It plans to hire 3,75,000 workers across the US this summer. That is quite the hiring spree!
By 2027, the fast-food chain hopes to increase the number of restaurants to 50,000. Of these, 900 burger joints will come up in the US alone. It already has about 43,000 outlets across 100 countries.
Interestingly, the news of this hiring spree comes at a time when the company posted what was probably the lowest sales figure in the last few years.
While it is not uncommon for restaurants to increase hiring to meet the demand surge during the summer season, it is rather surprising that McDonald’s is planning to hire after posting the weakest quarterly sales figures since the pandemic.
The chain blames the low footfall and sales on the atmosphere of economic uncertainty and pressure, which has forced customers to spend cautiously.
The plans of massive hiring were revealed just when McDonald’s completed a decade of its ‘Archways to Opportunity” programme, under which employees are given financial assistance to cover their tuition fees so that they can pursue their education goals.
If the summer hiring plan of McDonald’s goes as expected, the fast-food chain will probably end up expanding its workforce in the US by one-third. But will this hiring be seasonal or long term is the big question.
