The Assam Cabinet has taken a significant step to boost global job opportunities for skilled workers. The cabinet has approved the Assam International Skill Centre (AISC) under the Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM).
The AISC will facilitate overseas placement for skilled and semi-skilled workers from Assam, helping align the state’s workforce with global labour market needs. The centre aims to create an organised and ethical pathway for securing international employment.
The Skill Centre will follow a Hub & Spoke Model, with its main hub in Guwahati and multiple centres across Assam. This structure will make international job opportunities more accessible, particularly for local residents in skilled labour sectors. The initiative reflects Assam’s vision to empower its youth with sustainable employment options, both in India and abroad.
In another key decision, the Cabinet approved a monthly remuneration of Rs 9,000 for gaon pradhans. These local leaders play a critical role in governance by managing village-level issues and implementing government schemes.
The new remuneration will benefit 278 gaon pradhans in forest villages and 668 in villages under the Forest Rights Act (FRA) of 2006 in non-6th Schedule areas. The payments will take effect from 1 January, 2025.
These initiatives underscore the Assam government’s commitment to global r, grassroots empowerment, and fair compensation for local governance leaders.
