Apple lays off people in the sales division

The exact number of cuts has not been officially announced by Apple yet

Apple has reportedly laid off dozens of sales personnel across its offices, globally in a bid to streamline operations. About 20 sales personnel had already been terminated in New Zealand and Australia a while ago.

Those affected have been notified and have been told to find other suitable positions within Apple by the second week of January. If they fail to bag another role internally, they will be terminated by 20 January 2026 and offered severance.

Amongst the impacted are account managers working with corporate clients, schools and other educational institutions as well as government organisations, as per Bloomberg. Some of those being laid off are tenured employees who have been associated with Apple for two to three decades.

It is reported that even employees deployed at the company’s briefing centres, where demonstrations are held for prospective clients have been impacted.
These layoffs are reportedly part of a restructuring of its sales division to ensure better connections with clients.

Interestingly, Apple continues to hire for sales jobs. In fact, it has advertised sales positions and has urged the notified employees to apply for these positions internally.

Why these job cuts have happened is the question that arises in the minds of most because the tech major has been posting robust revenues in recent times. The company is also planning to launch a budget-friendly laptop targeting students and businesses. The revenue for the December quarter is reportedly expected to touch $140 billion. Also,

Tim Cook, CEO, Apple, has always maintained that layoffs are resorted to when there is no other option in sight. However, last year, many layoffs took place when several projects were cancelled and its self-driving car project saw many team members quit.
