J Kumar has been appointed chief human resources officer (CHRO) at HG Infra Engineering. He moves from Confidential where he was serving in a similar capacity.
An engineering graduate, Kumar went on to complete an MBA in Human Resources from Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies in March of 2004.
He worked as HRBP-talent acquisition and management, JSW Steel from 2006 to 2008, based out of Bellary, Karnataka.
He joined Dr Reddy’s Laboratories as HR business partner in July of 2008. For the next four years, he led HR for a 400+ member research team, overseeing talent management and OD initiatives, working out of Hyderabad.
J Kumar’s next stop was Abbott where he served as HR business partner managing HR operations for a 1000+ member salesforce till October of 2013, based out of Mumbai.
From 2013 to 2016, J Kumar served as head HR-AP Circle, Airtel, partnering with CXOs to align HR with business priorities, driving a proactive people agenda for almost three years. In August 2016 he was elevated to chief human resources officer, Airtel Payments Bank, based out of Gurugram for over three and a half years.
July of 2020 was witness to J Kumar serving as CHRO (FMCG), RP Sanjiv Goenka Group. For five years he successfully led HR strategy for the FMCG business with a team of 15, directly advising the CEO. He spearheaded HR transformation across total rewards, talent acquisition, OD, and HR tech, enhancing efficiency and employee satisfaction.
Confidential roped him in for CHRO role in July of 2025. And now, at HG Infra Engineering, he will be tasked with leading the people strategy and support the infrastructure development company’s growth and transformation.
