K Raheja Corp, the Indian real-state conglomerates was witness to its employees taking part in a unique volunteering initiative under its ‘Time Off for Volunteering’ policy. The initiative, Tactile Braille Card Making for the Visually Impaired, had employees exploring tactile creativity using threads, textures, toothpicks, ice cream sticks and other materials to create interactive Braille learning cards for visually-impaired children.

These cards depicted fruits, flowers, animals, vegetables and other common objects that people with healthy vision can see daily and take for granted and which the visually-impaired can familiarise themselves with only through touch.

The tactile Braille cards created by the employees were gifted to the NGO, ConnectFor, for further use.

According to Urvi Aradhya, CHRO, K Raheja Corp, “This initiative is a perfect example of how creativity and collaboration can make a tangible difference. Seeing our people come together to create learning tools for visually-impaired youth truly reflects our culture of care, inclusion, and social responsibility.”

Employees from across K Raheja’s group companies — Mindspace Business Parks REIT, K Raheja Corp Homes, Inorbit Mall and Chalet Hotels—came together to participate in the the initiative reinforcing the company’s commitment to community inclusion, empathy, accessibility and social impact.

Visually-impaired youth were also part of the workshop helping to ensure that the cards were accurate.
Music was also provided during the session by a visually impaired participant adding to the joy of the atmosphere.

Through its ‘Time Off for Volunteering’ policy, K Raheja Corp encourages its employees to turn compassion into action, offering paid time off to contribute to causes close to their hearts. Over the years, this initiative has been witness to the Group’s employees getting together to clean coastlines, paint schools, assemble wheelchairs, design colourful shoes, and much more, building strong connections between individuals, communities, and the causes that truly matter.
