With a view to improving the quality of education in the healthcare space, and enhancing the overall healthcare infrastructure, the Government of Chhattisgarh has revised the pay structure of medical educators working in government colleges. This revision will result in a 46 per cent increment in scheduled regions and 23 per cent in non-scheduled regions. That means, with effect from September, 2024, professors in non-scheduled areas—who were earlier earning 1.55 lakh—will now earn Rs 1.90 lakh. Professors in scheduled areas will earn Rs 2.25 lakhs instead of the earlier Rs 1.90 lakh. The hike will be applicable to assistant professors, associate professors as well as senior residents.
With the revision, the salary of associate professors will now be Rs 1.55 lakh instead of Rs 1.35 lakhs, while the salary of assistant professors will be Rs one lakh instead of Rs 90,000, and senior residents will earn Rs 75,000 instead of Rs 65,000. Associate professors teaching in medical colleges in the scheduled areas will earn Rs 1.85 lakhs instead of Rs 1.55 lakhs, while assistant professors will earn Rs 1.25 lakhs instead of Rs 90,000. Senior residents in scheduled areas will see their salaries rising to Rs 95,000 from Rs 65,000.
Contract doctors at government medical institutions in the scheduled areas will enjoy a 46 per cent hike, while those in the non-scheduled areas will enjoy a 23 per cent hike.
The increment was announced by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal. It is hoped that the revised pay structure will help to draw quality educators to medical institutions across the state and also retain them.
