The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has launched the “India Skills Accelerator” in collaboration with the World Economic Forum (WEF). The India Skills Accelerator is a national platform with the objective of strengthening public-private collaboration.

This ambitious initiative aims to close critical skill gaps in the Indian workforce and prepare the country’s youth for future job markets. The programme was unveiled at a high-level roundtable at Kaushal Bhawan in New Delhi.

It will focus on enhancing awareness about future skills, encouraging knowledge sharing across the skilling ecosystem, and revamping existing institutional and policy frameworks.

With technological advancements reshaping industries, the initiative comes at a crucial time when 65 per cent of organisations report skill shortages as a key challenge.

Through targeted upskilling and reskilling, the Accelerator plans to promote lifelong learning and career-transition agility. A major emphasis will be on aligning education with industry needs, particularly in sectors such as artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, and renewable energy. These efforts aim to build a workforce that can adapt to the demands of a rapidly- evolving global economy.

Leadership for the initiative includes key figures from both government and industry. The governance structure ensures a balanced approach to implementation, drawing on expertise from ministers and top industry leaders. Their combined efforts will shape strategies and ensure measurable progress.

The programme also plans to establish dedicated working groups to monitor developments and drive action through WEF’s Global Learning Network. These groups will provide insights, facilitate peer learning, and benchmark India’s progress on a global scale.
