There is good news for at least 13 lakh existing and former employees of Kerala government who are preparing to celebrate Onam. Despite the financial strain being faced by the state government, the festival bonus has been hiked for both serving employees as well as pensioners.
Kerala government employees and teachers will receive Rs 500 more this year, making their total festival bonus equal to Rs 4,500. Those who are not covered under the bonus will receive a special festival allowance of Rs 3,000, instead of Rs 2,750 which was the earlier amount.
Service pensioners will receive an Onam allowance of Rs 1,250, which is Rs 250 more than what they received in 2024. The benefit will be extended to retirees under the participatory pension scheme.
An advance of Rs 20,000 will be granted to all employees of the state government on the occasion of Onam. Part-time and contingent workers will receive Rs 6,000. A hike of Rs 250 will be given to contract and scheme workers as part of a festival allowance.
Pre-primary teachers and employees of special schools, as well as midday meal workers will receive a payment in the range of Rs 1,250 to Rs 1,550.
Rs 1,450 will be granted to ASHA workers, Buds School staff, palliative care nurses, Mahila Samakhya Society messengers, as well as school counsellors under the Kishori Shakti Yojana. Helpers associated with Anganwadis and Balavadis will also receive Rs 1,450 each.
