Another round of layoffs has affected 195 trainees this time at Infosys’ Mysuru campus. This is the fourth batch of trainees being impacted. This year, a total of 800 trainees have been affected by the results of the internal assessments at Infosys. Of these, 250 have opted to embrace upskilling programmes being offered by the company and about 150 have registered to avail the outplacement support.
Before this round, over two hundred trainees were dismissed for failing to clear the assessment that took place on 18 April. That third round had come close on the heels of the IT services company being heavily criticised for letting go 300 to 400 trainees at its Mysuru campus for not performing up to the mark in the internal test.
Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has been fighting on behalf of the affected employees, writing to the Ministry of Labour seeking intervention to ensure justice for the laid-off freshers. The first round of layoffs and ensuing media attention had put Infosys’ hiring procedures and labour-law compliance under the spotlight in February 2025.
In the complaint filed by NITES, it has been alleged that the company continues to break rules and has failed to communicate with the Apprenticeship Adviser. No formal investigation has been done to look into the alleged poor performance of the laid-off trainees. The termination orders have not come from any authorised leaders as per the standard practice/rules.
To all those affected, Infosys has reportedly offered generic training courses in BPM with NIIT and UpGrad, free of cost. Those not willing to opt for the BPM training may choose to accept the company’s transport arrangement from Mysuru to Bangalore and a travel allowance to their hometown. As per media reports, the trainees also have the option to take use the accommodation at the Employee Care Centre in Mysore until they leave.
