In a bid to simplify the organisational structure and decrease layers, the Expedia Group is letting go old employees and hiring new. Yes, the American travel booking firm has announced hundreds of new roles even while some of its tenured employees are reportedly still coming to terms with their layoff.

Going forward, the company is trying to improve accountability and increase pace. It is reportedly examining the skills it requires for the future and cutting down on organisational layers.

There has been no official revelation regarding the exact number of people and the specific departments that are to be affected in this move.
Going by the posts on social media by some employees, Expedia seems to have unexpectedly let go of decade-old members from its workforce. At the same time, the company has announced at least 250 new roles.

Some media reports reveal that the online travel company is letting go 162 staff members in the Seattle area. It is reported that Expedia, Inc. intends to start the layoffs on 1 April, 2026. The exercise is expected to go on till about 19 April, 2026.

As per news reports, data engineers, content designers, product managers, programme managers and software developers are likely to be affected.

Filings reportedly reveal that some vice president-level roles will also be affected.

The exercise is likely to see certain roles being relocated and others being assigned to contract workers.

In February of 2024, the online travel giant had attempted to streamline its operations by reducing its workforce by approximately nine per cent, impacting around 1,500 employees.
