During the period 9 May to 30 May, more than 200 employees will lose their jobs at FedEx, in Lebanon, in the Nashville area of Tennessee, US. This is reportedly because the transportation, e-commerce and business services American multinational will no longer be providing services to customers in Lebanon.
Efforts are on to re-assign employees to other FedEx facilities or help the impacted workers find other jobs within the organisation.
The company has notified the Tennessee Department of Labour and Workforce Development about the layoffs. The workers have been warned of the layoffs so that they are not shocked when the process begins next month, that is, May 2025.
The FedEX Network 2.0 had begun streamlining efforts in earnest. It began merging its Express and Ground operations, closing down several ship centres and trimming its workforce in Tennessee, Illinois, Virginia and West Virginia as part of its Network 2.0 programme to be spread over the March to June 2025 period. The initiative is aimed at saving costs.
In August of 2024, FedEx had announced intentions to cut up to 2,000 jobs across its European operations, as part of its cost-reduction strategy. At the time, the Memphis-based parcel- delivery giant had revealed that it was preparing to reduce its European back-office and commercial workforce by 1,700 to 2,000 positions over the next 18 months. The move was set to impact a part of its almost 50,000-strong workforce in the region. The cuts were expected to save the company $125 million to $175 million annually, starting from 2026-2027.
