India has taken a major step toward connecting classrooms with careers. NITI Aayog has set up a high-powered ‘Education to Employment and Enterprise’ Standing Committee to turn the country’s youthful energy into productive jobs and entrepreneurship. The initiative follows the Finance Minister’s 2026–27 Budget call to help India secure 10 per cent of the global services market by 2047.
The Committee, led by Nidhi Chibber, CEO, NITI Ayog, brings together senior officials from key ministries, state governments, and industry bodies such as NASSCOM, FICCI, and CII. Its mission is to align education, skilling, and employment systems with the fast-changing economy and technology landscape.
At its first meeting, members reportedly discussed how India’s services sector can drive growth, exports, and high-quality jobs. They explored issues such as youth employment, labour participation, skill gaps, and the shift from farm to non-farm work. The group also examined how AI and frontier technologies are reshaping job roles and skill needs.
For HR leaders, this signals a national push to future-proof talent pipelines. The focus is on industry-relevant skilling, stronger collaboration between government and employers, and policies that turn India’s demographic dividend into a growth dividend.
The Committee will meet regularly to recommend actionable steps that boost employability, entrepreneurship, and workforce readiness—creating a more agile, inclusive, and opportunity-rich labour market for India’s next generation.
