To strengthen India’s gig economy, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has tied up with Rapido, an Indian bike taxi platform. The collaboration aims to equip those looking for gig jobs with technical, behavioural, and safety skills, ensuring they are job-ready.

The two organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to train, skill and employ a growing workforce in the mobility sector. While NSDC will leverage its pan-India skilling infrastructure to identify and train candidates, Rapido will integrate these trained individuals into its growing fleet of bike and auto captains.

This partnership will create part-time and full-time job opportunities with steady income. A standardised training curriculum will be created by NSDC and certification will be provided under its skill framework. It will also connect individuals from its network directly to Rapido’s digital platform, creating strong employment linkages.

Ved Mani Tiwari, CEO, NSDC, emphasised that the initiative supports inclusive growth and economic empowerment. “We aim to empower India’s workforce with the right skills and link them to meaningful opportunities in the gig space,” he said.

Pavan Guntupalli, Co-founder, Rapido, also highlighted the company’s commitment to creating sustainable livelihoods. “With over two million captains earning through our platform monthly, we are excited to extend this opportunity to thousands more through our partnership with NSDC,” he noted. Rapido’s ‘Pink Mobility’ initiative will also play a key role in promoting gender diversity by offering special benefits to female driver partners.

As Rapido expands into over 500 cities, this partnership is expected to provide flexible, accessible earning options to a wide range of people, contributing to India’s evolving gig economy.
