Social media outrage over unempathetic boss

Instead of expressing concern for the employee's well-being, the manager asked the employee when he would be returning to work

The impact of an inconsiderate manager can extend beyond work, affecting employees’ mental health as well. A recent incident involving a manager’s response to an employee who survived a car accident has gained significant attention on social media. This situation highlights the toxic behaviour exhibited by some bosses.

User @kirawontmiss shared a screenshot of a conversation that begins with the employee sending a photo of his severely damaged car. Instead of expressing concern for the employee’s well-being, the manager simply asked for updates on when the employee would be returning to work.

The situation escalated when the manager followed up a day later. The manager stated that while the delay was understandable, any absence from work other than a death in the family will not be excused.

This response has sparked outrage among social-media users, with many expressing shock at the manager’s lack of empathy. Comments on the post reflected a widespread sentiment that such managers are frightening and questioned how one could be so insensitive.

Others shared similar experiences, including instances where their own managers dismissed serious health concerns. In contrast, some recalled positive experiences with supportive managers who checked in on their well-being during difficult times, emphasising that kindness in the workplace costs nothing.
