A Tech Mahindra software employee, Bhavana, staged a protest outside the company’s Dundigal campus after claiming she was terminated unfairly. She said the dismissal followed her taking leave to care for her 11 year old daughter, who was unwell.

Bhavana had joined Tech Mahindra about four months earlier. During training, she reportedly fell sick, fainted at work, and was hospitalised. In June, she took 13 days of medical leave and received a warning letter despite informing management of her condition. She alleged that her husband also communicated her health issues to the company but the response was unsympathetic.

She further claimed that on one occasion, the company failed to schedule her office cab, preventing her from reaching work. More recently, when her daughter fell ill, she informed supervisors about needing leave. She said she was asked to log in and wait for approval but left after repeated calls from her child, assuring the company she would make up for the missed work. Later, she received emails directing her to report back by 21 July, followed by notice of termination without a chance to explain.

Bhavana also alleged that employees were required to report every time they left their desks, even to go to the washroom, raising concerns about workplace culture. She has filed a complaint with Dundigal police, who have begun a preliminary investigation and sought a report from the company. Tech Mahindra has stated it is reviewing the matter urgently.
