The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a two per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for its employees, teachers and pensioners. The new rate will come into effect from 1 January, 2025.
With this revision, the DA rises from 53 to 55 per cent, offering much-needed relief against inflation.
Employees will see the revised DA reflected in their April salaries, which will be paid in May 2025. Arrears for the months of January to March 2025 will be disbursed separately. The hike aims to ease the financial strain faced by lakhs of families amid rising living costs.
This move closely follows a similar two per cent DA hike announced by the Central government. The state’s decision will directly benefit nearly 1.6 million employees, including government workers, teachers, and pensioners across Uttar Pradesh.
Dearness allowance is paid over and above the basic salary to help employees cope with inflation. Both Central and state governments revise the DA periodically, usually every six months, based on shifts in inflation indicators.
The announcement has been met with widespread approval among state employees. Many see the move as a positive step by the government to support its workforce. It also signals the administration’s recognition of the economic challenges faced by public servants.
While the increase will add significantly to the state’s annual expenditure, the finance department has already accounted for the financial impact. A detailed review was conducted last month to ensure the additional burden fits within the state’s budget plans.
