Vedanta Group continues to break barriers in gender diversity, achieving a significant milestone in the metals and mining industry. The company now boasts 21 per cent women in its talent pool, with 28 per cent of them holding decision-making roles.

This is one of the highest representations of women in leadership within the sector. Vedanta remains on track to meet its ambitious goal of 30 per cent women representation by FY2030.

Historically, the natural resources industry has seen limited participation from women. However, Vedanta is actively bridging this gap by implementing progressive hiring and workplace policies. The company is focused on attracting skilled women professionals and providing them with rich job content, mentorship, and career acceleration programmes.

Their key policies such as flexible work hours, ‘No Questions Asked’ work-from-home options, spouse hiring, and sabbaticals for childcare are supporting women across different life stages. Additionally, financial aid for education and gender affirmation procedures reinforces the company’s commitment to inclusivity.

Priya Agarwal Hebbar, chairperson of Hindustan Zinc and non-executive director of Vedanta, emphasised the broader impact of gender inclusion. “At Vedanta, we are not just promoting diversity—we are redefining roles in a male-dominated industry. Our policies, from upskilling initiatives to leadership pipeline development, ensure that capability, not gender, defines a job. A diverse workforce drives innovation, and inclusion fuels progress,” she said.

Vedanta is driving inclusion through pioneering initiatives across its business units. For instance, Cairn Oil & Gas has deployed an all-women security team, ‘Durga Vahini,’ to safeguard its oil fields in Rajasthan. Comprising women from rural backgrounds, the team also serves as a Quick Response Team (QRT) to enhance emergency preparedness across 38 sites.

Beyond workforce integration, Vedanta is celebrating International Women’s Day with month-long initiatives. At Vedanta Sesa Goa, select women professionals will shadow key leaders, gaining valuable mentorship and exposure. Additionally, the Sakhi Utsav event will bring together 10,000 rural women entrepreneurs from Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, showcasing their contributions to business and social advocacy.
