Narayana Murthy stands by 70-hour workweek; wants youth to work harder

When Narayana Murthy, co-founder, Infosys, had suggested that young Indians put in 70 hours of work a week, his comment had triggered off a debate on the importance of work-life balance.

However, Murthy continues to stand by what he said despite all the criticism that came his way.

His belief is that to help the nation achieve success, globally, its youth will have to realise how important it is to work hard. At a recent Indian Chamber of Commerce event at Kolkata, Narayana Murthy once again called on the youngsters of the country to compare India with the big and successful global companies and observe how they are ahead in every which way. He drew attention to the fact that India still has a long way to go. to attain success.

He reminded the youth that the country has 800 million people who live in poverty and survive on free ration; and that is enough reason for Indians to realise they need to work harder to eradicate poverty. The need of the hour is to generate jobs so that people have disposable incomes. Jobs can only be created by entrepreneurs who put in their best, forget about relaxation and focus on realising their potential.

Narayana Murthy urged the youth to steer clear of being complacent and mediocre. He drove home the fact that only hard work can uplift the country’s status globally and earn it respect.

It is pertinent to mention here that not long ago Murthy had made it clear that he did not believe in work-life balance and called it an indulgence that India could do without.

Ask Murthyji to call his Infosys employees 5 days a week, then give his thoughts on 70 hours workweek to the other public. His own company itself not following 40 hours per week, I have knowledge about the Infosys hours, Employees are allowed to work from office only 12 days in a month, and moreover many employees login in office for a few hours only rest they work from home. So Murthyji ask your Infosys management to impose the 70 hours workweek on the your employees, then let’s see how our country will develop.
