ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India has started work on a huge new steel plant in Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of Rs 70,000 crore. This project is one of the largest of its kind in India and will bring big changes to the local economy. The plant, designed to produce 8.2 million tonnes of steel every year, is expected to create around one lakh jobs, both directly and indirectly.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by leaders including N Chandrababu Naidu, H D Kumaraswamy, Lakshmi Mittal, and Aditya Mittal. They highlighted how the plant will support India’s goal of reaching 300 million tonnes of crude steel capacity by 2030. For workers, this means more opportunities in construction, operations, logistics, and advanced technology roles.

The facility will be built along the coast, making use of modern infrastructure such as slurry pipelines to transport iron ore efficiently. This setup will help the plant run smoothly and at scale, ensuring steady employment for thousands of people.

Lakshmi Mittal called the project a landmark in his long career, while Aditya Mittal stressed its importance in boosting India’s steel strength. Beyond jobs in the plant itself, the company is also investing in training programmes through NAMTECH, which will prepare young people for high-tech positions in the steel industry.

Operations are expected to begin by early 2029. Once completed, the plant will not only produce steel but also turn the region into a global hub for modern manufacturing, opening doors for future generations of workers.
