As the global hunt for AI and STEM talent heats up, Finland is doubling down on India. Through Business Finland’s Work in Finland unit, the country is rolling out clearer immigration routes and targeted opportunities for Indian professionals in high-growth sectors.
The message to India: bring your skills, keep your language, and build in one of Europe’s most innovation-driven economies.
Finland has introduced a fast-track residence permit service for specialists, startup founders, ICT leads, and senior managers. Applicants who meet the criteria — including family members — can expect a first decision within 14 days.
Laura Lindeman of Business Finland noted that competition for top tech talent was growing globally and that India remained a leading source of engineering and innovation, adding that building lasting links between Indian professionals and Finnish employers was their priority.
Finnish firms are scaling in AI, cybersecurity, software engineering, quantum, digital health, robotics, space, maritime, and advanced manufacturing.
Indian candidates with Master’s/PhD degrees and experienced engineers are well placed, especially for international roles where English is enough from day one.
Companies hiring actively include Nokia, ICEYE, Tietoevry, KONE, Wärtsilä, and TCS Finland across AI, cloud, software, industrial tech, and sustainability.
Himadri Majumdar, CEO and co-founder of quantum startup SemiQon, who has lived in Finland for over 20 years, stated that in Finland people were trusted to own their work and make decisions. He added that the hierarchy was flatter than in most Indian companies. He also noted that feedback was not constant, but when it was given, it was constructive and focussed on one’s growth.
In the past year, Work in Finland engaged 1,000+ professionals and founders through events and sessions across India. India is now the biggest source of international traffic to Workinfinland.com, with almost 80 per cent of visits leading to engaged sessions.
The platform also provides practical information on living, working, and relocating to Finland.
