Are IT jobs reviving? Infosys hired 4,480 in Q2

Infosys’ total headcount stood at 3,32,542 as of 30 September, 2026 and fresh hiring shows HR priorities are shifting back to workforce growth

Infosys has added 4,480 employees in the second quarter of FY27, taking its total headcount to 3,32,542 as of 30 September, 2026. At a time when many firms have been cutting jobs or freezing hiring, this is a refreshing sign of revival in IT hiring.

On a year on year basis, the increase is modest, with only 551 employees added compared to last year. However, sequential growth in Q2 is significant, especially given the cautious environment across the industry.

Infosys also hired 8,000 freshers in the quarter, with a full year target of about 20,000. More than half of this target has already been achieved in the first half of the year. The company says it is hiring across levels, with a focus on bringing in fresh talent at the entry stage while balancing skills across the workforce.

As per industry experts, Infosys’s headcount has been more or less flat compared to last year, while other large Indian IT firms have been increasing theirs by less than 11 per cent. Many firms have been relying more on artificial intelligence (AI) and productivity tools to deliver work rather than hiring ahead of demand.

Clearly, while technology and AI are reshaping delivery models, hiring fresh talent and maintaining workforce stability will continue to remain critical to sustaining growth and client confidence.
