ZEISS, an optics and optoelectronics firm launched the ZEISS Reignite programme to encourage women professionals on a career break to restart their careers. This initiative by ZEISS India is aimed to create opportunities for such women, and thus, increase the participation of women in the workforce even while building an inclusive workplace for all. As the name suggests, the programme will support women with valuable skills and experience to restart or ‘reignite’ their careers.

The first phase of the programme spanning a period of six months will be based in Bengaluru. It will offer hybrid opportunities across India for women professionals with at least two years of prior experience and a career break of over six months. The hiring will begin across all divisions of ZEISS India entity, including tech and non-tech.

Inclusion is an integral part of the culture of ZEISS India, as evidenced by the significant representation of women in our workforce. The 55 per cent women’s representation at the company’s India Mass Manufacturing facility (INMA) is proof of how this commitment has enhanced team productivity and fostered a positive work environment.

With the help of diverse hiring, flexible work arrangements, robust POSH training, and various gender-inclusive programmes, ZEISS India ensures the wellbeing and safety of its women. The senior leadership champions open feedback through dedicated forums and employee connections, reinforcing a sense of trust and empowering every employee, regardless of gender, to excel in their personal and professional journeys.

As Santana Ramakrishnan, CHRO, ZEISS India, said, “At ZEISS, we believe that talent and potential are not defined by career breaks. We understand that many women step away from their careers for personal milestones such as marriage or motherhood, but that should never mean an end to their professional aspirations. With this programme, ZEISS is committed to supporting women in restarting their careers with the right opportunities, mentorship, and flexibility.”

The objective, according to Ramakrishnan is, to “create meaningful pathways for women and ensure they return to work with confidence and purpose. By fostering an inclusive workplace that values diverse life experiences, we are not just enabling careers but empowering women to thrive!”
