Medibank is expanding its four-day work week trial. The decision comes after a successful six-month evaluation that highlighted improvements in employee wellbeing, satisfaction and productivity.
Medibank’s four-day work week trial is part of its larger ‘work reinvented’ culture shift. Furthermore, it is aimed at boosting employee flexibility without compromising business performance. The trial follows the 100:80:100 model, where employees retain full pay, work 80 per cent of the usual hours, and sustain 100 per cent productivity.
This time, an additional 250 employees will join the initiative, bringing the total number of participants to 500.
This makes it one of the largest trials of its kind in Australia. The trial, which is independently monitored by Macquarie University’s Health and Wellbeing Research Unit (HoWRU), has shown consistently positive results.
Key findings from the evaluation revealed stable productivity levels, with participants reporting increased satisfaction, engagementand performance. Teams managed to reduce time spent on low-value tasks, such as unnecessary meetings, and adopted more efficient processes. This has helped maintain performance while allowing for a “gift day” off. Additionally, improvements in psychological wellbeing and work-life balance were also reported, with participants experiencing greater resilience, reduced work-to-family conflict, and healthier lifestyle choices.
As the trial progresses, Medibank remains committed to driving workplace innovation to support both employee autonomy and improved decision-making for customers.
