Rajesh Sawhney, founder and CEO of GSF Accelerator, who happens to be a Harvard alumnus, stated on social media that Indian parents should refrain from spending on expensive foreign education for their children. Why? Because their fancy foreign degrees will not guarantee them a job in the US, Canada or UK.
According to Sawhney, the situation is not what it was a decade ago and that immigration rules have changed making it tough for international students to find a job even after obtaining a degree.
Sawhney who also has a fellowship from the London School of Economics, feels that expensive education is a waste today unlike in the past when graduates from the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) could easily land an entry-level job on obtaining a master’s degree in the US. There was a time when these entry-level jobs paid a starting salary of $200K to techies, but now things have changed drastically. Now, techies who do manage to land jobs after much struggle are always anxious and worrying about their role being axed any moment.
However, he does wish that engineers would return to India and benefit from the startup ecosystem in the country, and build successful business here.
There were mixed reactions to Sawhney’s post. Users feel that all is not over yet; that opportunities do exist although the process can be challenging.
