The Delhi government has announced an increase in the minimum monthly wages for its Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) workers. The changes include wage hikes for unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled workers employed by MCD, according to PTI reports.
The new wages will see skilled workers’ monthly pay rise by Rs 528 to Rs 20,903, semi-skilled workers’ wages by Rs 494 to Rs 18,993, and unskilled labourers’ wages from Rs 16,792 to Rs 17,234.
Consequently, the daily wages will now be Rs 574.47 for unskilled workers, Rs 633.10 for semi-skilled workers, and Rs 696.77 for skilled workers.
The Dearness Allowance (DA) will be paid to all MCD workers starting 1 April, with the government’s proposal set for approval in the next MCD House meeting. Accumulated DA will reportedly be released once approved.
The MCD House meeting agenda includes discussing a wage hike for clerical and supervisory staff, with proposed minimum salaries for non-matriculate employees rising to Rs 18,993, matriculate but not graduate employees to Rs 20,902, and graduate and above employees to Rs 22,744. Corresponding DA for these categories will be Rs 494, Rs 546, and Rs 598 per month, respectively.
In October, Delhi Labour Minister Raaj Kumar Anand highlighted that Delhi’s minimum wage rates are the highest in the country. He emphasised that this decision will benefit workers across all scheduled employment categories, including those in the unorganised sector, who will also receive dearness allowance typically reserved for state and Central government employees, as reported by the Hindustan Times.
