With an aim to enhance its compensation and benefits programme, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. has revised the compensation of its employees. The Indian law firm has also introduced new people-centric policies, with two weeks of work from anywhere a year. Caregiver leave of up to three weeks is also offered. The paternity leave has been increased to three weeks. There is additional childcare leave along with health checkups and sabbatical policies for associates and partners.

From now on, entry-level associates will earn up to Rs 20 lakhs. The compensations of all other associate and salaried partners have been revised based on holistic performance evaluation, taking into consideration efficiency-based performance.

This revamp is in line with the law firm’s belief that its team members should be rewarded handsomely for their work. These policies also highlight Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas’ commitment to attracting, retaining and nurturing the best legal talent in India.

To ensure the wellbeing of its team members, the law firm has introduced an annual rejuvenation break between Christmas and New Year (from 25 December to 1 January, with both days included). The company formally recognises mental health days and also offers onsite physiotherapy services.

It has put in place a new workplace anti-harassment code, and provides support to its associates and partners in the form of mentorship and coaching.

Shardul S Shroff, execuive chairman, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. acknowledges that “people are the cornerstone of our success and we seek to enable them to thrive in their wholeness, professionally and personally with our new firm value proposition.”

With the enhanced compensation and benefits programme, the law firm wish to focus on “attracting, rewarding and retaining top talent while fostering a culture of excellence, collegiality and meritocracy.”

This is part of the firm’s attempt to become “the most progressive, inclusive, holistically balanced and preferred employer in the legal arena in India.”
