The Central government of India has expanded travel options under the Leave Travel Concession (LTC) scheme, permitting employees to travel via Tejas Express, Vande Bharat Express, and Humsafar Express trains. This decision follows numerous requests from various offices and individuals seeking clarity on the inclusion of premium train services in the LTC scheme.

Previously, the LTC scheme allowed travel on Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and Duronto trains. With this update, eligible Central government employees can now choose from a wider range of premium train options based on their travel entitlements. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), in consultation with the Department of Expenditure, has issued the directive to implement this change.

Under the LTC scheme, employees are reimbursed for to-and-fro train tickets in addition to receiving paid leave during their journey. This move is expected to make travel more convenient for employees by providing access to faster and more modern train services.

The inclusion of Tejas, Vande Bharat, and Humsafar trains is seen as a step toward aligning government travel policies with the evolving transportation landscape. These trains offer enhanced facilities, improved speed, and better travel experiences, catering to the needs of government employees travelling under the LTC scheme.

The decision reflects the government’s commitment to addressing employee concerns and improving travel options within the framework of LTC entitlements. It also highlights the government’s effort to modernise travel policies while ensuring accessibility to premium services for its workforce.
