Tamil Nadu stands out as a leader in India’s technology sector, with 80 per cent of its IT workforce hailing from the state itself. The state contributes 20 per cent of India’s total technology professionals, showcasing its strength in skilled manpower.
The Information Technology and Digital Services Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan emphasised the government’s commitment to nurturing local talent and creating a favourable environment for businesses at the 22nd edition of Connect 2024, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Chennai.
The government is focused on enhancing the ease of doing business for existing enterprises while prioritising skill development and workforce integration through initiatives such as the ICT Academy. This platform, established in collaboration with the Central and state governments, equips students with academic knowledge and industry-ready skills.
Tamil Nadu is also fostering innovation by allowing startups to implement technology solutions without traditional tender processes. This move aims to accelerate progress and encourage disruptive technologies.
With robust policies in research, development, and deep technology, the state is paving the way for a stable and skilled workforce. Infrastructure remains a key focus, as plans are underway to establish 400 Global Capability Centres by 2027, aiming to drive innovation, generate employment, and boost economic transformation in the region.
This ambitious target underscores Tamil Nadu’s commitment to solidifying its position as a global technology hub.
