After a long and successful tenure at GE, that lasted over two decades, Sajid Iqbal has moved to Brigade Group as chief human resources officer (CHRO) and senior vice president (SVP).
This alumnus of Xavier Institute of Social Service began his professional journey as an HR specialist with Larsen & Toubro (L&T), in 1997. For two years he led the implementation of the new rewards programme and talent-development intervention at L&T’s Powai plant before switching to Godrej Pacific (now Ingram Micro), as human resource manager, in August 2001. There, his skills in labour and employment law were put to good use as he was responsible for the talent-recruitment, sales incentive and early talent-development programmes for the organization that had over 25 branches across India.
Sajid Iqbal’s association with GE began in February of 2003. He joined as human resources manager, working out of Mumbai and Hyderabad for about three and a half years. From 2006 to 2010 he was based out of Kansas, in the US, playing global human resources business partner. During this period he introduced performance-incentive programmes for the first time as a key lever to drive business profitability and growth, working closely with the VP of the business. In December of 2010, he was elevated to HR business partner, working out of Bengaluru. He led the Transportation Technology and Engineering team through a transformation of growth after a restructuring process.
October of 2012 saw Iqbal taking on the role of HR head, GE Healthcare, India Technology Centre. Almost two and a half years into this role, he was appointed HR head India-GE Oil and Gas, GE Transportation and GE Aviation businesses. By December 2016, he was elevated to vice president-human resources.
Now, in his new role at Brigade Group, one of India’s builders, he will drive the HR agenda in partnership with senior leadership. HRKatha wishes Sajid Iqbal all the best in this endeavour!
